Arinsal, Andorra – This tiny town, on the border of France and Spain, is the perfect ski resort for beginners and intermediate level with many gentle slopes in the area. It was originally the cheapest place in Europe for skiing, but while prices have increased drastically in the past decade, it is still one of the most inexpensive ski vacation resorts today. Despite it’s small size, there is a very vibrant nightlife in Arinsal and the resort is also suited to families with many reputable restaurants and amenities in the town.
Bregenzerwald, Austria – In Vorarlberg, you also have another ski resort suitable for beginners. Bergenzerwald is surrounded by gentle slopes and has more than 200km of skiing in the region which are all covered by the same pass for ski lifts. You can quite easily travel between these areas by local bus which is often considered a highlight in terms of planning a trip to Austria.
Avoriaz, France – France and Switzerland are known for being rather expensive, but there are always exceptions to the rule and in Avoriaz, you have exactly that and this is the reason why you should consider it when planning your itinerary in France during the winter. The centre of this resort is located in the Portes du Soleil which are nothing short of being enormous and one of the nicer things about Avoriaz, is how there is no traffic in the area. The scenery is incredibly beautiful, the slopes are suitable for all levels and while there are many larger apartment block buildings here, they give the town it’s own unique appearance as they sit perched up on the hilltops.
Kranjska Gora, Slovenia – Once more, we delve back into Eastern Europe for ski resorts and this time we head for Slovenia. This resort is perfect for families or anyone inexperienced at skiing with more gentle slopes and all located close together. The towns are charming in Slovenia so you can expect some leisurely skiing and a local friendly atmosphere for everywhere in between.
Les Houches, France – It may be one of the more expert or extreme resorts on this list, but it is certainly worth traveling to Chamoix, even for novice’s. A very cultural experience presents itself within the small towns here, the food is fantastic and if you are staying in Les Houches, you don’t have to travel at all as the ski lifts are right on your doorstep.
Söll, Austria – This Kitzbühel is one of the more famous areas for ski rersorts that people choose for a tour itinerary in Austria and it is also quite close to the next affordable ski resort which is called Söll.
While it doesn’t share the notoriety of Kitzbühel, you will find some of the very cheapest accommodation in Europe in the very centrally located Söll ski resort. This is another place suitable for anyone looking for a lively atmosphere after dark.
Verbier, Switzerland – Spectacular scenery, excellent amenities and good ski lift infrastructure ensure La Tzoumaz’s is one of the top ski resorts in Switzerland for bargain hunters. From here you can still explore the famed resorts of Verbier except pay just a fraction of the cost for accommodation and lift passes. There are less crowds in the resort too which means less people on the slopes, which is surely just as good a reason as any to avoid the other extremely expensive resorts in the area.
Zakopane, Poland – The lift passes are on a pay as you go basis which may seem unusual to the experienced but nevertheless, Zakopane in the south of Poland is one of the lesser known ski resorts in Europe where you can enjoy a vacation for a fraction of the cost elsewhere. The slopes are ideal for beginners and Intermediate levels and while there are no five star resorts in the area, the small town charm in Zakopane makes for a pleasant experience.
Krkonose, Czech Republic – Krkonose is a favorite ski resort for many in the Czech Republic and is another budget option for anyone interested in something different.
Again, it does not have the five star accommodation of Switzerland or France, but the low cost of pretty much everything in the area, is likely to put a smile on the face of even the highest expectations.
