About Sant Feliu De Guixols
Sant Feliu de Guixols is the largest town on the Coast Brava. It is an important port city as well as a popular seaside resort area.
Located on a beautiful bay, the town is centered around its lovely shoreline and sandy beaches, charming 10th century old town, lively marina, and rocky coves which overlook the glistening Mediterranean.
Located about an hour from Barcelona, Sant Feliu de Guixols is a popular vacation spot, especially since its mild Mediterranean climate means pleasant temperatures much of the year. It is a great place for water sports, hiking, cycling, and scenic, relaxing walks.
The town is also home to interesting architecture and culture, including the 12th century Benedictine monastery, part of which forms the old Romanesque gate, the Porta Ferrada, and the church, Parroquia Mare de Deu dels Angels. It now houses the town’s museum and is a protected Historic-Artistic monument. The town’s coastal Passeig Del Mar promenade is lined with rows of trees, statues, fountains, and stone benches as well as dozens of cafes and is a great place for a leisurely stroll.
Several popular annual festivals take place in Sant Feliu de Guixols in the summer months, including the Carnival of Sant Feliu de Guixols, the Ferrada Porta, and the traditional Fiesta Mayor.
Just outside Sant Feliu de Guixols is the upscale coastal resort S'Agaro. The resort began to be developed in the 1920’s by a rich industrialist who built a summer residence there, and it now has 60 exclusive houses and hotels. The renowned luxury Hostal de la Gavina is located there dominating the view from the Sant Pol beach, and it has been declared a protected historical complex.
