About Ptuj
The oldest city in Slovenia, Ptuj features several picturesque historic manors, cultural monuments, and lively streets.
Ptuj is a town in northeastern Slovenia and is the oldest city in Slovenia with evidence that the area was settled in the Stone Age.
Local landmareks include Ptuj Castle, St. George's Church, the "little castle", Ptuj Town Theatre, Orpheus Monument, •Upper Mansion and the Dominican and Franciscan monasteries. most of these date back to the 12th century.
The Orpheus Monument - a monolith carved from a 5 metres tall piece of white marble - is the oldest public monument preserved in its original location in Slovenia, the largest discovered monument from the Roman province of the Pannonia Superior, and the symbol of Ptuj.
