About Dundee
Dundee, a city on Scotland's east coast, is on the north bank of the Firth of Tay estuary and has established itself as a trading port since the 12th century.
Once a major wool and textile export port, the city today is recognized as the UK's first UNESCO City of Design for its diverse contributions to fields including medical research, comics and video games.
Dundee is dominated by The Law – a high volcanic hill with a large war memorial at its summit. There are two famous historic ships docked in Dundee: one of the oldest frigates, the HMS Unicorn and the RRS Discovery which sailed to Antarctica on a research mission.
The city has also fine museums and art galleries with the latest V&A Dundee - Scotland’s design museum (the largest in Europe) housed in a unique building made of curving concrete walls, creating the appearance of a Scottish cliff face.
Note: V& A stands for Victoria and Albert Museum
Be sure to visit the coastal villages, ancient castles and warm Scottish hospitality in the Dundee area.
