Dnipropetrovsk is Ukraine's third largest city, with about one million inhabitants. Dnipropetrovsk is the administrative center of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. The city was originally envisioned as the Russian Empire's 3rd capital city, after Moscow and St. Petersburg. A vital industrial centre of Soviet Ukraine, Dnipropetrovsk was one of the key centers of the nuclear, arms, and space industries of the Soviet Union. Because of its military industry, Dnipropetrovsk was a closed city until the 1990s. Its main attractions include the Dnipropetrovsk National History Museum, Dnipropetrovsk Planetarium, Transfiguration Cathedral, Fresh-Water Fish Aquarium, and more.
