About Winterthur
A little off the beaten path, this lovely city is a treasure trove of art and culture with its many museums and cultural venues.
Winterthur is a city in the canton of Zürich. Winterthur's chamber orchestra is the oldest in Switzerland, and also plays at the Zürich Opera. Musikfestwochen, in late August and early September, sees Winterthur’s Old Town taken over for live music of all kinds, in the streets, bars and concert venues. In 1989, Winterthur received the Wakker Prize for the development and preservation of its architectural heritage, among these sites are the church of St. Laurenz in the city centre, the town hall, and the assembly hall. The annual Open Doors art festival takes place during the last weekend of September and provides artists with means to independently promote their art in any way they choose.
