About Valldemossa
Valldemossa is characterized by narrow, winding stone alleyways interspersed with old stone houses.
Nestled in the picturesque mountains and green hills of Mallorca are many quaint, traditional villages, and Valldemossa, a charming, historic village, is one of them. Situated between the Tramuntana Mountain range and the Mediterranean Sea, Valldemossa is characterized by narrow, winding stone alleyways interspersed with old stone houses.
The Real Cartuja de Valdemossa (Royal Charterhouse of Valldemossa) is one of the town’s most popular attractions. A former Carthusian monastery dating back to the 14th century, this structure - with its outstanding architecture and lush gardens -now serves as a museum which showcases the town’s history and the monks who had resided there. Just as a footnote for classical music enthusiasts… in 1839, the building was also the home of the famous composer Friedrich Chopin and his lover George Sand, author of “Winter in Mallorca.”
Valldemossa also offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking and cycling through the scenic trails of the beautiful countryside and beautiful, nearby beaches. For foodies, Valldemossa is a great destination with its choice of top-notch restaurants offering local specialties as well as its cafes and bars. Don’t miss the island’s well-known “ensaimada,” a pastry made of lard, sugar, and cinnamon. And, be sure to visit the town’s lively market with its range of local goods- from handcrafted items to fresh produce.
