About Pecs
A multicultural city famous for its rich history, Mediterranean climate, and wonderful local wine.
Pecs is the fifth largest city of Hungary. The city has always been a multicultural city where many cultural layers are encrusted melting different values of the history of two thousand years. The first university in Hungary was founded in Pecs in 1367 (the largest university still resides here). It also retains its rich heritage from the age of a 150-year-long Ottoman occupation, exemplified in the mosque of Pasha Qasim and the Jakovali Hassan Mosque. In addition, the city is noted for the Cella Septichora, the Necropolic of Sopianae, an 11C cathedral, and Hungarian Bishop's Palace, among multitude of others.
