Funen is linked to Zealand by the Great Belt Bridge and to Jutland by the (old) Little Belt Bridge. Due to its many forests and gardens the island is nicknamed the “Danish Garden Island”. As a result, hiking and bike tours are very popular around the island and its archipelagos and many coastlines are bordered by sandy beaches, forested hills and limestone cliffs. You are connected to a security (belted) system and then, 60 meters above the waters, you walk across the bridge with the most marvelous views of the bridge below you, the waters and nature all around.
Odense is an enchanted city with its old center with cobblestone streets and colorful houses leaning on their sides. Take the time to relax at the Munkemose Park in the city center which is also a place for fun for the whole family. On Funen Island there are over 120 manors and castles, the most famous being the unique Egeskov Castle and Gardens which date back to the 1400’s in the town of Kværndrup. As well a visit to the 15-16 century Romanesque-Gothic Kværndrup Church, is worth a visit.
