About Gomel
A large city in south-east Belarus, dating to a 10C settlement along Sozh River, now home to several architectural landmarks.
Gomel is the administrative center of Gomel Voblast and the second-largest city in Belarus. Gomel was founded at the end of the 1st millennium AD on the lands of the Eastern Slavic tribal union of Radimichs. It lays on the banks of the Sozh river and the Gomeyuk stream. After the declaration of independence, Gomel became a city in the independent state of the Republic of Belarus. Its attractions include the Gomel Palace, St. Peter and Paul Cathedral, and Museum of Military Glory.
